Fluorinated Foam Nucleating Additive

FluoRight C808

Cell-size control for energy-efficient rigid foam systems

FluoRight™ C808 is a clear, colorless, odorless and non-flammable fluorinated additive for polyurethane and other rigid foam formulations. Acting as a nucleating agent, it promotes smaller, more uniformly distributed cells and can reduce foam thermal conductivity by approximately 3–15% compared with otherwise comparable formulations.

Product Features

  1. 01
Effective at addition levels as low as 0.5% of total foam weight, subject to formulation validation.
  2. 02
Reduces average cell size and improves the uniformity of rigid foam cell morphology.
  3. 03
Supports lower initial and aged thermal conductivity; particularly effective in hydrocarbon-blown systems such as cyclopentane foams.
  4. 04
Clear, colorless, odorless and non-flammable liquid with ODP 0 and GWP 20.

  • 03
Other rigid polymer foams requiring finer and more uniform cell morphology

Processing Guidance

Because FluoRight C808 has very low solubility in most polyols and isocyanates, it must be emulsified into the foam resin before foaming. It may first be mixed with the hydrocarbon blowing agent and then blended into the resin, or dispersed directly into the resin under high shear. Typical direct emulsification uses a mixer at 2,000 rpm or above until a uniform milky-white emulsion forms. For hand mixing, limit mixing time to two minutes or less to restrict heat build-up. Other additives such as catalysts are normally incorporated before C808; the blowing agent is generally added after the emulsion forms. Machine processing may introduce C808 as a third stream at the mixing head.

Storage & Handling

Store tightly sealed at room temperature and protect from water ingress. Maintain suitable ventilation during handling and follow the current Safety Data Sheet (SDS). The recommended addition level and mixing method should be confirmed through formulation and process trials before commercial use.
